Welcome

New Information:

Make plans now to attend the 2008 NASW Wyoming Annual Conference on September 11-12, 2008 at the Holiday Inn, Riverton, Wyoming!  This year’s conference is titled:

Investing in Wyoming Social Workers

Building Skills…Empowering communities…Strengthening our Profession

Many exciting topics will be offered this year, with a focus on providing in-depth knowledge and skills that can be directly applied to various practice settings.  Our keynote presentation will be on Motivational Interviewing, presented by Diane Kempson, MSW, LCSW, PhD.

“Motivational interviewing is a directive, client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. Compared with nondirective counseling, it is more focused and goal-directed. The examination and resolution of ambivalence is its central purpose, and the counselor is intentionally directive in pursuing this goal.” (http://www.motivationalinterview.org).

An interactive workshop will also be offered in which motivational interviewing skills will be addressed.  Other presentation topics include psychodynamic tools for the therapist, incorporating developmental theories into practice, international social work activities, person-centered discharge planning, the Jungian approach to the inner wilderness, and projective dream work,  just to name a few.   Also, an Ethical Decision Making workshop will be offered that will meet the new state requirements for three hours of ethics continuing education training for newly licensed professionals (but this will be in-depth information for seasoned professionals as well).  Please go to the “2008 Annual Conference” tab on the left side of this web page for a complete list of speakers and presentations being offered this year.  Also, there you will find a link to the registration form, which you can print, with all the important conference information.

Also at this year’s conference, a NASW General Membership meeting will be held during lunchtime (lunch provided) on September 12th.  This will be an excellent opportunity to meet the newly elected NASW Board of Directors, voice your interests and concerns, and learn about the triumphs and challenges of transitioning the Executive Directorship of NASW WY back to Wyoming!

I look forward to seeing everyone at this year’s conference for exciting information, connecting with colleagues and making new friends.

Sincerely,

Liz Dole-Izzo, MSW, LCSW

NASW WY President
